About Anthony Lewis

Anthony Lewis is a photographer, outdoor enthusiast, teacher, and filmmaker who has spent nine years living in Hong Kong and has now returned to the UK. Anthony's main specializations are landscape, nature, and urban photography. He has a deep passion for everything outdoors and enjoys learning the intricacies of the natural world.

Anthony began photography in 2013 but has only been able to realize his artistic vision very recently. He has challenged himself to photograph landscapes in one of the world's most densely populated cities and enjoys the challenges that it has thrown at him.

Due to the photographic abundance from living in a large city, he has developed and honed other genres of photography such as street and portraiture. He has self-published several books on Hong Kong street photography and runs a family-orientated hiking YouTube channel

ANTHONY LEWIS
2021

A collection of my favourite images from 2021. This was definitely the jack of all trades type of year for my photography. In this book, you will find a collection of street, landscape, wildlife and panoramic images. In total, I managed to add 41 photos to my portfolio this year, though I'm not sure if these would make their way into others. I enjoyed the journey and making them at least and that's generally what photography is all about, isn't it?

URBAN SOLITUDE

Urban Solitude represents a personal journey exploring the irony of solitude in such an urban and fast-paced environment. A place called home by many and a home to many without a place. The bubble which people form around themselves shields them from the energetic and competitive landscape that can overwhelm every sense of the body. Despite Hong Kong's urban density, there are gaps in time and space where the return to solitude is carried out via modern means. Technology combined with the distracted eye is a part of the city's soul and one that can consume the already initiated folk that now call this place home. With the absence of conversation and cultural comforts, the mind slowly loses focus on what it means to be a part of something bigger than the self. Eventually, you are consumed by the streets and begin to feel a part of their energy. Solitude can co-exist with being another face in the arteries of the pulsating streets. Finding solitude can sometimes be a task that was never undertaken but the gateway to another form of expression. This urban odyssey reflects the irony of solitude.

NEW ZEALAND
SOUTH ISLAND

Having the opportunity to travel and photograph New Zealand's south island has been a dream of mine for the last two years and most likely the dream of other enthusiastic landscape photographers the world over. After living in the bustling metropolis of Hong Kong for the past three years it was finally time to exhale and explore the wide-open spaces of this far away land set under southern skies. It has been my ambition for some time to progress my landscape photography which has been especially difficult to do in Hong Kong.

The journey to capture the best this land had to offer began in Christchurch on the south island's east coast, from there we quickly picked up our cosy albeit small camper van and immediately headed inland to the Mackenzie district where we spent our first evening and night camped at Lake Tekapo. At every bend and hilltop along the road there were countless vistas and sights that begged to be photographed, driving times between places were always double than that were planned and very right so given the splendid beauty of this land.
